When Glenfarclas released their first cask strength whisky there was a lot of excitement as it went flying off the shelves. So this time around we expect the same to happen, if not more, due to a new age stamp of 20 years being added to it. It is a limited edition range, creating around 4000 bottles with the cask strength at around 60% ABV, so not a great deal to go around. The official tasting notes suggest that the nose is powerful, with aromas of Demerara sugar & figs, with the end reminiscent of a Christmas cake. The palate is remarkably smooth for a 60% whisky. More sweetness in the front of your mouth, giving way to the bitter sweetness of the chocolate covered coffee bean flavour. Then comes lots of fruits & brandy flavours with delicate sherry tones after a while. The finish is long with the age really shinning through over the strength, defiantly a dram to savour as the finish will last long. ...

The Glenfarclas 25 year old is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside. Glenfarclas is one of the last family run distilleries left in the world & is owned by the Grant family who have been running it since 1860. The 25 year old is simply the epitome of long aged sherried Speyside whiskey. Given an age statement of 25 years but due to its continuous ageing in sherry casks gives it a much older feel. The Glenfarclas 40 year old is the oldest Whisky in the Glenfarclas range. It was distilled in 1960 & got bottled in 2010 giving it the age statement of 40 years. However this 40 year old is like no other, it was designed to be drunk, rather than sitting in a cabinet only for people to look at. It has exceptional flavours & still keeps inline with the usual Glenfarclas Sherried notes. It was awarded 95/100 by the malt advocate magazine & also got 94/100 in the infamous Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2013 which is a victory in itself.
