Also known as Sun Star, an apt name for this bright addition to your spring garden displays. A superb tender perennial, originating from South Africa, producing eye-catching spikes of vivid orange flowers (sometimes with dark chocolate coloured centres) but despite its origins does very well throughout most of the UK. Not totally frost hardy so if a frost is likely then protect well or plant in containers & move to a frost-free area through the coldest months. Flowering can be from late winter to early summer. On occasion they can stay in dormancy for the year as is the case with some South African bulbs. Be patient! They make superb cut flowers so you can bring spring colour inside! RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. Flowers December-May. Height 20-30cm. Bulb size 5/6cm. (Bulb sizes"ed in centimetres refer to the circumference of bulbs. All bulbs are sourced from cultivated stocks.)
