A trug which has been in production since the 1980s, made from the best plywood in the world
- Finnish Birch. It uses 4mm ply for the handles & rims & 1.5mm ply for the boards. Measures 26cm x 46cm. Way back in the heydays of the 1820s, just before Queen Victoria ascended to the English Throne, a Man of Sussex, one Thomas Smith of Herstmonceux, invented the Sussex Trug! He redesigned the historic trog & in so doing he created a part of the English gardening scene that is now world famous! The last Smith family member to own the company was Eddie Smith who, together with his wife Winnie ran it until they retired. Although, sadly, Eddie is no longer with us Winnie is still a frequent visitor to the workshops. There are many inferior quality imitations of this exclusive product, but there is only one original & authentic Trug & that is made only at Thomas Smiths Trug Shop right in the centre of Herstmonceux. They are crafted almost entirely by h&, using wood from sustainable resources & the same traditional methods handed down through the generations. And what a fantastic & long-lasting gift they would make for a gardening friend or even for yourself!
