A fabulous stamped brass oval plate handle, made from original press tools at the armac brassworks. uses the unity design for the british isles, an english rose, a scottish thistle, & an irish shamrock. These are a true replica of late 18th century designs still manufactured in their original method. the process for stamping cold metal shapes for furniture decoration was patented in birmingham in 1779. These type of handles are very popular with restorers & repairers as the shape of plate is often referred to as a 'cover-all' in that it easily masks earlier fitting marks & drillings. Both sheraton & chippendale used these handles extensively into the early years of the 19th century. Antique finish.
