Surly Cross Check Complete. The Cross-Check was the third frame we ever offered & we offered it as a complete bike a year after the introduction of the frame. It&8217;s a cyclocross bike by category but we try to design a lot of versatility into our stuff. You can ride it on the road or off. It&8217;s got lots of space for fat tires & for fenders. It does as good a job getting you across the country as it does getting you across town. If you get bored with how it&8217;s built change it. It can be a geared bike or a singlespeed or fixed gear. Big tires? Check. Skinny tires? Check. Neither the frame nor the component spec of the bike have changed much since we introduced it almost a decade ago because&8230;well why should it? We have made a few changes & updates over the years when those changes were either necessary or just plain a good idea. For instance we added mid-blade eyelets to the fork for mounting a front rack. This isn&8217;t a touring bike per se but it will handle lighter touring loads & a front rack can make that easier. This year we gave it a new fork crown too with threaded eyelets for adding&8230;things. Need a place to mount a spare light? Got a mini rack that needs anchor points? You&8217;re covered. There&8217;s a reason we still offer the Cross-Check after all these years. The frame is comfy & tough as nails. We continue to hear from people who have made the Cross-Check their default go-to bike simply because it performs so astonishingly well. It&8217;s one of the best riding most versatile bikes around. Surly Dingle Cog Fixed dual cassette cog. Having two cogs on the back means you have more options for gear changes when the conditions demand it. Say you want to ride your off-road fixie from your house to the trailhead but your gear combo is either too high for the dirt or too low for the road. With a 17/19t Dingle on the back pick two chainrings that are 2 teeth apart like a 44t & a 42t. When you change from the outer &40;44:17t&41; gear combo to the inner &40;42:19t&41; you’ll have a much better off-road gear & your wheel position will not change. This maintains effective chainstay length so you won’t have to worry about having too much or too little chain length to accommodate the gear change. Made from machined heattreated & chrome plated SCM415 Cro Moly steel. Available in 3/32&34; &40;narrow chain&41; tooth width 17/19t 17/20t or 17/21t combinations. We recommend using 9-speed chains only. You can thread it onto any standard ISO threaded &40;1.375x 24tpi&41; fixed gear hub & it takes up the same 7.4mm threads as a standard fixie cog. We recommend using a wider lockring &40;like our enhanced track lockring&41; to assure you can get a lockring tool onto it. Cog sizes;17/18T.17/20T17/21 T Note: General Fixed cog check:for correct fixed use the fixed cog should NEVER move on the hub when pedal force is applied in both directions.i.e. if the cog moves then something is wrong. Continued use with a fixed cog that moves will result in damage to the hub. ...

Years ago our Pugsley&8217;s 3.8&34; Endomorph tires & 65mm-wide Large Marge rims introduced the cycling world to new riding possibilities. Our big tires run at low pressures get you over terrain that is difficult or impossible to ride on a &8216;regular&8217; bike. That original Pugsley tire/rim format certainly changed the game but there are places & conditions that beg for a larger tire footprint. So to satisfy our cravings for increased traction action we introduced the 82mm-wide Rolling Darryl rim. Darryl spreads out the tire more than Marge does effectively presenting more tread to the trail & adding traction potential. Bigger can be better. Not wanting to be limited to using the 82mm rim/3.8&34; tire combo &40;the largest recommended for the Pugsley&41; we decided that it was time to raise the bar & develop higher-volume tires wider rims & a frame to accommodate them. So this year we offer you the Big Fat Larry 4.7&34; tire the 100mm-wide Clown Shoe rim & of course the Moonlander frameset. Like all of our framesets the Moonlander is made from Surly 4130 Cro Moly steel. It features 135mm-spaced 28mm-offset rear-loading Surly horizontal dropouts &40;track ends&41; with a derailleur hanger&8230;meaning you can set it up as a singlespeed or geared bike derailleured or internally geared. The bottom bracket height gives you clearance for bushwhacking & monster-trucking. The dropped & gusseted top tube maximizes standover height. & the tallish headtube means that you can set your rig up with a comfortable riding position for those long days grinding out miles in the saddle. Moonlander&8217;s fork measures 447mm axle-to-crown...same as the Pug so all of our fat forks are interchangeable between the two models. The disc mount means that you can use a front disc brake caliper with a 135mm O.L.D. rear hub&8230;or with a 135mm-spaced Surly front hub. Mid-blade thru-eyelets & lower rack barrels are included for installing fenders & racks. We offer the Moonlander as a frameset & as a complete bike. The complete bike components were chosen for their durability & their suitability to the task at h&. We chose thumbshifters because they allow you to shift even when wearing mittens. To accommodate the Clown Shoe rim/ Big Fat Larry tire spec the frame design pushes the chainline even farther outboard than that of the Pugsley. So we spec&8217;d Moonlander with our new MWOD crank system. The MWOD &40; Mr. Whirly Offset Double&41; ditches the big ring & moves the middle & granny ring outboard. The 2 x 9 drivetrain offers the gear ratios most applicable to a bike of this type while avoiding chain/tire interference. Works like a charm. If you&8217;ve ever wanted a little more float & traction to get you over the hills & through the woods to Grandmother&8217;s House of Ill Repute & Freestyle Taxidermy consider the Moonlander. Surly Racks are well-thought-out durable expedition-worthy racks that work with most panniers. While their racks aren’t limited solely to heavy duty touring that is what they were designed for. When you’re out on the road the best option is to never ever have anything ever go wrong ever. Right? That’s never a guarantee though; so having something that you can repair if it does brake can be pretty clutch. Thusly the main bodies of Surlys front & rear racks are made from tubular Cro Moly steel with stainless hardware. This means you can probably find someone out there that can torch it back into one piece in the rare instance things go south. The front Rack is height adjustable & provides either a low or high pannier mounting position which can be handy depending on terrain. When the ground gets rough keep your gear high & dry. When the path is smooth & easy you can load things low & keep everything balanced & stable with the platform above the wheel providing yet more space for more stuff. It’s worth mentioning the Front Rack hardware has been redesigned to be simpler to attach & more compatible with things like disc calipers & fenders. Surly have also made attachment plates specifically for our Uni-Crown forks for yet more fork compatibility. This simpler design has fewer moving parts & costs less to manufacture ergo costs less for you to purchase. The Surly front rack WILL work with disc brakes on our Troll Ogre & Disc Trucker frames. It may take a bit of work to get clearance around the front caliper since the many different calipers out there are many different shapes. The new attachment plates will limit any DIY ingenuity you might need but if you need to throw a washer or three behind the lower left bolt where the plate attaches to the fork dropout that’s not a big deal.
