Conflict is one of the most damaging & costly sources of workplace stress, lost productivity & of individual & team demoralisation. Those who deal with the breakdown of working relationships will recognise the correlation between conflict, stress & sickness/absence. You may also have witnessed the complex & time consuming downward spiral of complaints, grievances, investigations or adjudications possibly involving further appeals & even the recourse to employment tribunals or civil litigation.
For Managers or HR who are tasked to resolve such conflict scenarios the dilemma is to remain impartial whilst having to institute formal procedures or to intervene with business-led rulings that inevitably leave those in conflict feeling, to a greater or lesser extent, discriminated against or unfairly treated.
The reason is that such formal resolution procedures do not normally address the underlying elements of the conflict & rarely achieve satisfying & lasting improvements for all parties involved
- including the Manager or HR partner involved.
This day workshop will draw upon the model of Workplace Mediation which is unique in placing the responsibility for conflict resolution & for the improvement of the working relationship directly with those at odds.
