The course examines changing HMRC attitudes & powers & increasing ability to exchange & receive information across borders. HMRC's approach to 'international' enquiries is considered &, since the tax issues at stake often involve a considerable degree of judgement, how a group can best protect itself from aggressive HMRC challenge is discussed. As the tax at stake in such enquiries can be very significant, the pros & cons of litigation are considered as is how best to prepare for the litigation process. Finally, the course looks at the impact of EU law &, post Enron, the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest
