Data transfer is performed serially. The EIB is essentially comprised of sensors == issuers of commands (e.g., light barriers, switches, thermostats, infra-red, wind gauges, time switches) and actuators == receivers of commands (e.g., motors, heaters, ventilators, lamps, shutters).
