Sorbsan Surgical Dressings Sorbsan Surgical Dressings are made from the calcium salt of alginic acid, prepared as a textile fibre, & presented as a loose `rope' or packing for cavities, a ribbon for narrow wounds or sinuses, & a flat non-woven pad for application to larger open wounds. When in contact with serum, wound exudate, or solutions containing sodium ions, the insoluble calcium alginate is partially converted to the soluble sodium salt, & a hydrophilic gel is produced, which overlays the wound & provides a micro-environment that is believed to facilitate wound healing. Sorbsan Surgical Dressings may be applied to exuding lesions including leg ulcers, pressure areas, donor sites, & most other granulating wounds but for deeper cavity wounds & sinuses, the packing & ribbon forms are generally preferred. The dressing also appears to be of value as an adjunct to the systemic treatment of infected or malodorous wounds & for the management of painful wounds when removal of other more traditional dressings causes unacceptable levels of pain or trauma. Directions Sorbsan Surgical Dressing is placed onto the surface of the wound & covered with a sterile secondary dressing held in place with surgical tape or a bandage as appropriate. The nature of the secondary dressing will be governed by the condition of the wound. If large quantities of exudate are anticipated, a simple absorbent dressing pad may be required; but as the wound heals & less exudate is produced, a thinner pad bearing a plastic film of low adherence may help to conserve moisture & prevent the wound drying out too quickly. Because the alginate fibre reacts with sodium ions to form a soluble gel, the dressing may be removed by irrigation with sterile normal saline. This may be accomplished without causing either damage to the wound or pain to the patient. It has been reported that a small percentage of patients experience a mild `drawing' or `burning' sensation immediately after the application of an alginate dressing to a dry wound bed. This sensation, which is usually transient, is thought to be due to the hydrophilic nature of the dressing causing temporary localised drying of the surface of the wound. This discomfort may generally be prevented by moistening the surface of the wound with a small quantity of sterile normal saline prior to the application of the dressing. ...

Sorbsan Plus Surgical Dressings Sorbsan Plus Surgical Dressings consist of a layer of alginate fibre bonded on to an absorbent viscose pad which in turn is backed with a pink viscose/polyester layer to indicate the outer surface of the dressing. When in contact with serum, wound exudate, or solutions containing sodium ions, the insoluble calcium alginate is partially converted to the soluble sodium salt, & a hydrophilic gel is produced, which overlays the wound & provides a micro-environment that is believed to facilitate wound healing Sorbsan Plus Surgical Dressings have the same general indications as the regular Sorbsan Surgical Dressings, for example leg ulcers & pressure areas, but is particularly indicated for heavily exuding wounds. Directions Sorbsan Plus Surgical Dressings are applied to the wound & held in place with tape or a suitable bandage. Secondary dressings are not usually required because of the extra absorbency imparted by the integral absorbent pad. It has been reported that a small percentage of patients experience a mild `drawing' or `burning' sensation immediately after the application of an alginate dressing to a dry wound bed. In most instances, this discomfort may be prevented by moistening the surface of the wound with a small quantity of sterile normal saline immediately prior to the application of the dressing. The interval between dressing changes will depend entirely upon the state of the wound. When applied to heavily exuding or sloughy wounds, Sorbsan Plus Surgical Dressing may need replacing daily at the beginning of treatment but as healing progresses & the amount of exudate decreases, the interval between changes may be extended to two or three days. ...

Souvenaid Souvenaid is an innovative nutritional supplement for the dietary management of early Alzheimer's disease, containing a unique combination of nutrients at levels difficult to achieve from diet alone. Souvenaid can be taken alone or in combination with standard drug therapy for Alzheimer's disease; no drug interactions were seen in clinical trials. Souvenaid is lactose & gluten free, however, do not take if you are allergic to fish, soy or milk. It is not suitable for patients with galactosaemia. Souvenaid is available in strawberry & vanilla flavours
- simply choose from the drop down above. How does Souvenaid work? People living with early Alzheimer's disease have been shown to have relatively low levels of a range of nutrients in their bodies despite eating a normal diet. These nutrients are required in the process of making new connections in the brain called synapses. Omega 3 fatty acids, uridine monophosphate & choline, together with several key vitamins, all work together to help this process. The loss of synapses is one of the key features of early Alzheimer's disease. Directions Souvenaid is ready to drink
- simply drink one bottle per day. It is best served chilled but does can be stored at room temperature. Souvenaid is specially formulated to be a low volume drink as it recommended that the entire bottle is consumed at once to ensure that the correct amount is taken each day. However, if the bottle is not finished, you can close the lid & keep in the fridge for up to 24 hours from opening. It may help to take Souvenaid at the same time each day, as this should make it easier to remember to take it every day as it will become a habit. If the person taking Souvenaid does forget to take it at the usual time, they should just drink it when they remember or are reminded. Souvenaid is a food for special medical purposes for the dietary management of early Alzheimer's disease. Souvenaid must be used under medical supervision. You must seek advice from your doctor, specialist nurse or pharmacist if you are unsure of your condition or diagnosis or if you would like to use Souvenaid.
