San Francisco’s musical nomads Rupa & the April Fishes hold up a carnival mirror to life & present a warped, humorous & occasionally disquieting reflection. As far as tribute albums go, this homage to seminal Canadian rockers Rush is hard to beat. For one thing, Magna Carta has made an inspired decision to have each song recorded by an all-star lineup rather than letting one band handle all the chores (with one exception -- Fates Warning get sole credit for " Closer to the Heart"). Rush: Geddy Lee (vocals, keyboards, bass); Alex Lifeson (guitar); Neil Peart (drums, percussion). Recorded at Rockfield Studios, Wales in June 1977. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Continuing a tradition that began more than a decade earlier, Rush follows its 12th (!) studio album with a live one, A SHOW OF HANDS. The album draws almost exclusively from the third chapter of Rush's life, 1982-89, stressing the notion that their newer material was just as important as their classics. All tracks have been digitally remastered. After building up a cult following with many years of non-stop touring, Rush nearly lost their fans with CARESS OF STEEL. Taking their cue from British bands like Yes & Genesis, they began to expand their sound beyond that of a typical power trio. Gone were the riff-based songs & extended jams, replaced with more intricate arrangements, multi-part songs & deeper, introspective lyrics. Ironically, it was these elements that would later win them an int ...
