Many had left Black Sabbath for dead at the dawn of the '80s, & with good reason -- the band's last few albums were not even close to their early classics, & original singer Ozzy Osbourne had just split from the b&. But the Sabs had found a worthy replacement in former Elf & Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio, & bounced back to issue their finest album since the early '70s, 1980's Heaven & Hell. The band sounds reborn & re-energized throughout. Several tracks easily rank among Sabbath ...

This is a GREAT live album. Both discs are absolutely solid. Of the total 12 songs on the album, 6 are from the later 2 Sabbath albums: Heaven & Hell, & Mob Rules. The other 6 are from the first 3: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, & Master of Reality. The beauty of this recording is that the new band (with singer Dio & drummer Appice) can not only rock their newest songs, but they can also kick out the old classics harder than ever. Since it has been more than 10 years since these classic albums ...

Black Sabbath's first two releases, Black Sabbath & Paranoid, were more than groundbreaking, they were earth-shattering, exposing the public to a brutal new form of noise pollution termed heavy metal. But it was the band's third album, Master of Reality, that cemented the group as blackened wizards of doom & gloom. ...

While other frontrunners of hard rock/metal like Led Zeppelin & Deep violet began dabbling in other musical forms (folk & string symphonies, respectively), Black Sabbath stuck close to its original direction & was rewarded with several of the most enduring rock releases of all time. Coming off the worldwide breakthrough of the bands 1971s landmark, PARANOID, MASTER OF REALITY (released the same year) proved to be Sabbaths third classic in a row. Like all Sabbath albums of th ...

1981's Mob Rules was the second Black Sabbath album to feature vertically challenged singer Ronnie James Dio, whose powerful pipes & Dungeons & Dragons lyrics initially seemed like the perfect replacement for the recently departed & wildly popular Ozzy Osbourne. In fact, all the ingredients which had made their first outing, Heaven & Hell, so successful are re-utilized on this album, including legendary metal producer Martin Birch (Deep violet, Whitesnake, etc.) & supporting keyboard p ...

After quitting briefly following the band's previous tour, singer Ozzy Osbourne returned to Black Sabbath for 1978's Never Say Die! The title track kicks things off with a promising bang but ultimately lacks enthusiasm; a pleasant surprise arrives in the very original & experimental " Air Dance, featuring tasteful piano flourishes from leading session keyboardist Don Airey. Never Say Die! is best suited for Sabbath completists. Eduardo Rivadavia. ...

Towards the end of 1977, Black Sabbath were in a state of turmoil. Problems of all description were having an adverse effect on the bands ability to function & finally Ozzy Osbourne could take no more & would quit at the end of the Technical Ecstasy World Tour. Briefly replaced by ex-Savoy Brown vocalist Dave Walker & resulting in the first line-up change since the band began ten years earlier, Walkers tenure would however, be extremely short lived & Ozzy returned to resume lead vocal du ...

' Paranoid', Black Sabbath's second album, released in 1970 was a work like no other at the time of its release. The quartet of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Toni Iommi (Guitar), Geezer Butler (Bass) & Bill Ward (Drums) after their self titled debut at the turn of the '70's put together this heavy-metal work of art. Black Sabbath are rightly credited as the main band which pioneered the heavy metal sound
- their style was very revolutionary for its time. They were light years ahead of quite a lot of

PARANOID proved to be Black Sabbath's most focused, consistent, & successful record. Leaving behind the amorphous, extended jams of their debut for focused songs & a more structured sound, Black Sabbath virtually wrote the book on heavy metal with the ominous, unforgettable riffs, thunderous rhythms, & dark themes on this release. There are some up-tempo rockers, the famous title track for one, but for the most part PARANOID oozes along like a bad dream, as on the slinky, creepy opener, W ...

Black Sabbath - Mob Rules

Even though this album was released some 22 years ago, Mob Rules stands as one of Black Sabbath's best albums without the aid of Ozzy Osbourne. Ronnie James Dio does a great job on vocals, and presents a much more interesting vocal range than anything Ozzy put out in the 1970's. The tracks "Turn Up the Night", The Sign of the Southern Cross, and "The Mob Rules" are the obvious hits, but who could forget "Country Girl", Over & Over, & "Falling Off the Edge of the World."
