Previously referred to as Michael Harding Refined Portuguese Turpentine, this Refined Gum Turpentine is a colourless solvent distilled from pine sap. It is used to thin oil paint & to clean various printmaking tools of oil-based ink. Michael Harding use this genuine Portuguese Maritime Turpentine to produce their oil mediums. It generally speeds the drying time of oil paint, & thus is especially useful for underpainting. Paints mixed with this Turpentine will dry slightly matte. Turpentine is a volatile & toxic material; please exercise due caution when using this product. Try & store in darkness, as direct sunlight causes turpentine to cloud. UK shipping by road only. Not available for International or Northern Ireland delivery. ...

Michael Harding Refined Linseed Oil is a pale oil extracted from the seeds of the flax plant. It is used in many of Michael Hardings paints because it produces the strongest paint film during the drying process & ensures the longevity of each painting. When mixed with oil paint, linseed oil will increase the gloss & transparency of the paint, & will thin the paint so that it flows more easily & does not hold brushmarks. It will also slow the drying time of the paint. Linseed oil is also highly suitable for use with dry ground pigments. UK shipping by road only. Not available for International or Northern Ireland delivery. ...

The use of walnut oil in paint can be traced back even further than that of linseed. When 15th century artists began to add oil to their tempera colours it was walnut oil that seemed the obvious choice. Jan van Eyck in Flanders & Antonello da Messina in Italy both knew of its handling properties. Walnut oil dries at the same rate as linseed oil, but it does not yellow as much. Michael Harding use it as the binder for their lead whites, but it is not widely used as it is around three times the price of linseed oil. Use it to thin whites & to bring out the brightness in other colours. UK shipping by road only. Not available for International or Northern Ireland delivery. ...
