This ultra telephoto zoom lens covers a range of focal lengths from 50mm to 500mm ultra telephoto. This lens is equipped with Sigma’s unique OS (Optical Stabiliser) function. This system enables hand held photography for many types of subjects such as motor sports, aeroplanes, close-up & wildlife. Four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction of colour aberration throughout the entire zoom range. By rotating the zoom ring, it is possible to change the focal length easily from a standard focal length to an ultra telephoto range. Sigma’s own unique OS technology The lens is equipped with Sigma’s own unique OS (Optical Stabiliser) function. This system offers the use of shutter speeds Approx. 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible, making telephoto shooting easy. Mode 1 is ideal for general photography & Mode 2 is designed for panning subjects such as racing cars. For Sony & Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an anti-shake function. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the view finder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus & ensure there is no subject movement. * For Pentax & Sony mounts, it is not possible to use the AF & the built-in OS function of this lens when attaching it to film SLR cameras as well as Pentax *ist series & K100D. * When using the OS function of a lens with a camera which incorporates a stabilizer unit, please turn the camera’s stabilizer unit off. * For Nikon & Canon mounts, Optical Stabilizer (OS) function will not work with film SLR cameras except Nikon F6 & Canon EOS-1V. APO Tele-Converter (Optional) The addition of the optical 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters produce a 70-700mm F6.3-8.8 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens or a 100-1000mm F9-12.6 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens respectively. * The Pentax mount Tele Converter is not compatible with this particular lens. Easy Operation & Handling This lens features a Zoom Lock device to eliminate “zoom creep” when the lens is tilted down. When the lens is set to the 50mm focal length, it is remarkably compact & provides easy handling. A removable tripod socket (TS-31) is included making it convenient for handheld photography. The Rear Focus mechanism makes it possible to use the custom bayonet " Petal-type Hood" which prevents extraneous light from degrading the image quality. The lens has a 95mm filter thread & is also supplied with a step down ring enabling digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor to use an 86mm diameter filter. * It is not possible to use a Polarising filter with the step down ring. The MVH500A is a lightweight head with a wider platform for HDSLR bodies & the sliding plate travels to balance the latest interchangeable lens cameras. The entry-level 500 ensures smooth shots & fine control with up to 5kg (11 lbs) of equipment. It’s the most compact head in our successful Bridging Technology™ range. MVH500A is supplied with a 60mm half ball video tripod mount & it also replaces the Manfrotto 701HDV video head. Beautifully smooth shots: the 500 has professional fluid cartridges on both pan & tilt axes to ensure that every camera movement is smooth, controlled & precise. Faster, easier & safer to use: the side lock system allows the camera & sliding QR plate to click quickly into the head from above, instead of needing to be aligned & slid in from the back. No secondary safety lock is necessary. The side lock system also makes it quicker & simpler to lift the camera out of the head from above.
