This silver heart necklace with violet iolite gemstones, is from our silver necklace range & is called: A Journey to love starts with a single step. It is a hallmarked sterling silver necklace & has iolite gemstones set into the heart as well as part of the necklace itself. It is formed from a silver heart, handmade using polymer metal clay (silver PMC). Inset into the silver heart are three oval cut iolite gemstones each of which is around 0.4 cts. The chain of the heart necklace is formed from rough cut iolite beads which have been wrapped using sterling silver wire & connected using sterling silver jump rings. The chain is completed with a sterling silver belcher chain. The heart necklace is very delicate & fine & represents the journeys we take when we set out on our life & the love, of all kinds, that we find. The reason I choose iolite for this piece, is because iolite was used by the Vikings as a navigational tool, as it polarises light. In fact, this polarisation gives iolite one of its special properties, pleochroism which means that it can look different colours under different lights, i..e shades of violet & blue.
