Vintage Moroccan Handira Blanket No. 119 features rows of decorative kilim & soft fluffy tufting.  One-of-a-kind vintage textiles handwoven on traditional looms in the mountain villages of Morocco. Handira are woven as wedding blankets imbued with blessings for the newly married couple & adorned with sequins to ward off the evil eye. Traditionally the bride would wear the blanket as a cloak around her shoulders on the journey from her birth village to village of her new husb&. These heavy blankets are woven from wool & cotton for protection from cold winters in the mountainous regions of the country. Handira wedding blankets are fabulous heirloom textiles & good examples of this craft are becoming increasingly rare. They make wonderful statement pieces in the contemporary bohemian home, hung on a wall, laid on a bedroom floor or as a cosy blanket or sofa throw.
