Burton Whammy Bar Snowboard 157 - 2013
Burton have had some pretty cool collaborations over the years, Carhartt, Stussy, House of Marley, Ralph Steadman, Star Wars and this year The Grateful Dead have all inspired clothing or graphics in the dark recesses of the Burlington workshops. This year we are getting pretty moist over the collaboration on the Whammy Bar as Pink Floyd have allowed their iconic album artwork for Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here and Division Bell to be used on the top sheet, just as well Burton make wall mounts as these will definitely feature as wall art for some! Snowboards are more than just a blank canvas though and the Whammy Bar is first and foremost a snowboard, its V-Rocker profile, Scoop nose and Mid Spoon make it the ideal choice for loose park laps and superior jibbing style while its soft flex makes it super fun and accessible for park rats of all abilities. With quite possibly the coolest graphics we have ever seen, the most difficult decision will be whether or not to mount the bindings!

Burton Custom Restricted Flying V Snowboard 158 Wide - 2013
Burton have always come up with some pretty iconic collaborations for their top sheets, especially for their ‘Restricted’ range. For 2013 they have excelled themselves on the Restricted Custom Flying V by collaborating with the Muppets, every board length adorned with a different member of the family. Now, many snowboarders have been alluded to as Muppets over the years, mainly by the skiing fraternity, so the decision to create this story on perhaps their best know Custom snowboard proves, if proof were needed, that Burton understand that we snowboarders have a far more perceptive and self depreciating sense of humour than your average Joe (skier!). Of course, there would be no point in creating a masterpiece on the top sheet and base if the snowboard itself didn’t measure up. Fortunately the Custom Restricted is one of Burton’s flagship snowboards, jammed full of tech to give it poise, speed, amplitude and accessibility this is a snowboard that packs a punch in any discipline whatever conditions you find yourself in. Aimed mainly at the intermediate to advanced rider the Custom Restricted will have you smiling from the pistes, through the park and into the back country. Get one, don’t be a muppet!

Burton Custom Restricted Flying V Snowboard 156 - 2013

Burton Harvest Restricted Late Model Snowboard 147 - 2012
Last year Burton debuted the Nug as a late model to acclaim from the press and public alike. The Burton team loved the Nug too but had a few suggestions to improve it still further, their dreams are realised in one of the latest Burton late models, the Harvest. The Harvest has had a bit of air brushing and features a reduced waist size from its Nug template, the main difference though is the introduction of camber which sharpens up the response and a slightly more buttery feel for increased response when hitting the bigger features. A board for the hard core shredder who wants to Harvest their tricks from the park and take them all over the mountain!

Burton Parkitect Restricted Snowboard 160 - 2013
The Burton Parkitect is an all-new board for 2013 and, as the name may suggest, has been drafted to sweep away all previous conceptions of how a park board should perform. The Parkitect starts with the premise that most park riders have a splayed or ‘duck’ stance meaning that your feet point to about ten to two on a clock face, all boards up until the Parkitect have had all their technical features running either nose to tail or straight across the board from heel to toe. With the Parkitect Burton have taken their Sqeezebox (variable core thickness) and Frostbite (extended edges under the bindings) technologies and turned the axis of them to mirror a duck stance of about 15 and –15 degrees. This means that the energy you put into the board is translated more directly onto the edges and into the core thereby wasting less energy resulting in better control and higher ollies. Phew, that was all a bit much! Basically if you ride park, the Parkitect will get you higher in the air with less effort while gripping better on those icy pipe walls, easy. The Parkitect also features traditional camber, which seems to be making a comeback on the pro scene, more snappy pop for bigger air, you can see why they like it! Predominantly a park/freestyle board the Parkitect is most at home cruising laps but thanks to the sintered base and scoopy nose it can be taken anywhere that the conditions are good. Take it off the drawing board and into the mountains, you won’t regret it!

Burton Clash Snowboard 160 - 2013
The aim of the Burton Clash is to get you ripping around the mountain from the nursery slopes in the quickest possible time with a price tag that may break the piggy but shouldn’t break the bank. A mellow flex means that the Clash is super easy to ride, especially when paired with Burton’s V-Rocker profile and Cruise Control. These features help beginner riders gain confidence on a stable, catch-free board but the Clash has enough about it to rip around the mountain when progressing to green and blue runs. The Clash has a directional shape with a 3 – 6mm taper from nose to tail depending on length, this promotes stability on the pistes and float, should you get those precious powder days!

Burton Whammy Bar Snowboard 150 - 2013

Forum Scallywag Snowboard 151 - 2012
Shiver me barrels, bring me the rum mouthwash cabin boy, this had better be good. And fortunately it is. The Forum Scallywag - lovable rogue or scurvy knave, depending largely on whether you have a metaphoric pair - is upgraded for 2012 with the addition of ChillyDog with Pop, a continuous rocker profile with variable core thickness to amplify your ollies to an almost supernatural level. The core is strengthened with carbon stringers outside your bindings (Booter Boosters) and the tip and tail are shaved down to reduce the swing weight (Swingers Club), to get you spinning faster than Richard Hammond in a dragster.

Burton Hate Restricted Snowboard 157 - 2012

The board has been crafted primarily as a park destroyer but has enough about it to bounce from piste to piste with ease, its softer flex with the V-Rocker profile and Jumper Cables make this board so poppy you could wear it to Remembrance Day!

Burton Hate Restricted Snowboard 152 - 2012
The Burton Hate. Not friendly, as the name may suggest, but then some things are just misunderstood. It wants to ride but can't be doing with queues and snakers is all. The Hate is in Burton's restricted range, available only in core snowboard shops which may make it a little harder to get hold of but worth the effort. The board has been crafted primarily as a park destroyer but has enough about it to bounce from piste to piste with ease, its softer flex with the V-Rocker profile and Jumper Cables make this board so poppy you could wear it to Remembrance Day!

Forum Destroyer Double Dog Snowboard 156 - 2012
The Forum Destroyer Double Dog snowboard should be used by Ronseal in their ads as this board does exactly what it says on the wrapper. With the addition of Double Dog for 2012 the Destroyer reaches new heights, if you have the bottle to go there! Double Dog is a board profile that gives you camber under your bindings, to give you power and control in the turns, and rocker sections between your feet and at the tip and tail to give a playful feel. Where this profile differs from other camber combo profiles is that it has softer sections beneath your feet with carbon strands (Booter Boosters!) at the tip and the tail to maximise the pop in your ollies. The Destroyer Double Dog is for intermediate to advanced park riders who want to leave a trail of destruction and devastation in their wake, not for the faint of heart.

Burton Parkitect Restricted Snowboard 150 - 2013

Burton Clash Snowboard 155 - 2013

Burton Fish Snowboard 156 - 2013
The Burton Fish has appeared in many different incarnations over the years but has always delivered the kind of powder slaying performance that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and leaves the proverbial cat from Cheshire looking glum by comparison with your face splitting, whooping screams of delight. Big shoes to fill then?! Rest assured that the 2013 version of the Fish delivers, Burton have shoe-horned all the technical innovations required for powder domination into a Nug Raduced footprint making the Fish the most manoeuvrable swallowtail we have had the pleasure of ripping around on. Nug Radution basically optimises the waist width, length, effective edge and flex of the board allowing you to downsize 3 to 6 cm from your normal board length without sacrificing speed, pop, control or, most importantly, float, handy when you’re lining up the cliff drop into a tree filled landing zone! The Fish features Burton’s S-Rocker profile which has conventional camber under the back binding with reverse camber from outside the front binding giving unbelievable float without sacrificing control and making back leg fatigue a thing of the past. This combined with the elliptical nose shape to plough through deep snow and crud, enough carbon to build a new life form and a super fast sintered WFO base make the 2013 Fish the pinnacle of its evolution to date. If you are gonna get a powder specific snowboard then cast your eyes upon this beauty and reel her in… Sorry, had to go there!

Burton Custom X Snowboard 160 - 2013
What can you say about the Burton Custom X that hasn’t already been said? Burton’s premium shred stick for many years and still the choice of top pros with riding styles as diverse as Nicholas Muller and Kazuhiro Kokubo’s. The reason riders keep coming back to the Custom X is the unparalleled combination of power, poise, pop and response that Burton have managed to get right over many years of evolution. This years board features all the treats from last years incarnation, such as Lightning Bolts, Frostbite Edges and Squeezebox, then added the all new Carbon Highlights, a full carbon layer in the fibreglass that reduces weight and increases strength, to give even more power and poise. The Custom X is definitely a board for the advanced rider with its snappy, traditional camber profile but is so versatile it can be taken all over the mountain which is why Nicholas and Kazu can take it from the back country to the pipe hitting every line in between.

Forum Recon Snowboard 158 - 2012
The Forum Recon is a snowboard designed to allow you to express yourself, whatever you ride into. Although the Recon is a price point snowboard it is certainly no soft noodle, it features Forum's ChillyDog with Pop core which is a continuous rocker profile, slightly softer between your feet with stiffened sections just outside the bindings to add amplitude to your ollies; the tail is also slightly stiffer than the nose to give yet more pop as well as a more stable landing base. The Forum boys have been wiping out the opposition at the video awards for the last couple of years, could this be your ticket to the big time?!

Burton Bullet Snowboard 164 Wide - 2013
It used to be that, if you had feet larger than hobbits, your feet would overhang the edges of the board causing all manner of problems when riding. These days life doesn’t have to be such a drag, the Burton Bullet has a wider waist width than average to give those with longer feet a stable, catch-free platform to take their riding from the bunny hill to the blue runs and beyond. The Bullet features a V-Rocker reverse camber profile and Cruise Control making it accessible for those riders beginning their snowboarding odyssey but has enough about it to take you to the top of the hill, and get you down again! The wider waist width is for anyone who has experienced the drag of overhanging feet and doesn’t like it, want it or need it in their lives going forward.
