Like golden thread in a tapestry, ancient Celtic legends are shot through with magic & mystery. One such story concerns the Lady Elaine. She was betrothed to a handsome young knight, but he was called away to the wars far across the sea. As they parted, the knight said that if Elaine still wanted to marry him when he returned, she should place a white flower in her window, as a secret sign. Two years passed, then on Christmas Eve Elaine heard that her fiance was coming home. But in the dead of winter where could she find a white flower? In desperation she asked the sorceress Morganna le Fey to help. On Christmas morning Elaine awoke to see a single orchid
- petite, perfect & pure white in a vase on her windowsill. The knight rode past, saw the flower &...they lived happily ever after. Fanciful nonsense? Of course, but then again
- that spell-binding little orchid does have an air of enchantment about it, don't you think?
