When Britta learns that Greendale will host a carnival over the weekend, she worries about running into her carnival worker ex-boyfriend, Blade, & begs Annie to keep her from looking at her phone until Monday. Inspired by the unlikely name of Britta’s ex, Troy & Abed settle in for a night of watching the vampire movie Blade, while Annie deploys several techniques she learned in drug rehab to keep Britta away from her phone. Meanwhile, Vice Dean Laybourne orders Dean Pelton to convince Troy to enroll in his Air Conditioning Repair School, while Pierce feels left out of the study group because he doesn’t have a best friend. ...

When the biology test the study group is cramming for is postponed, Annie seizes the opportunity to send Britta & Troy on a date. Since Abed is disappointed that Troy won’t be spending their unexpected free time in the Dreamatorium with him, Annie volunteers to take his place. Despite her best efforts to fit into his elaborate Inspector Spacetime fantasy, Abed quickly loses patience with Annie & lashes out at her for setting up his best friend. Abed tells Annie that the Dreamatorium lets him test drive any scenario involving their friends. Abed then acts out a disastrous date between Dream Britta & Dream Troy. Frustrated with his controlling personality, Annie tries to give Abed some empathy & reconfigures the Dreamatorium’s engine to prioritize other people’s needs. But when his brain short circuits, she worries that she’s gone too far. ...

When the study group discovers that the yam they were growing for Professor Kane’s biology class has been knocked to the floor & smashed, Shirley orders Troy & Abed to investigate. After questioning Pierce & Todd, they learn that Magnitude had the lab key on the night of the crime. Once they track him down, he tells them that he lost the key when his backpack was stolen in the library. Troy & Abed set up a sting operation to catch the thief & discover that Star-Burns broke into the classroom to steal equipment for his meth lab. But when he tells them that he saw Todd fleeing the scene, they agree to keep his secret. ...

After Star-Burns dies in a meth lab explosion, Greendale struggles to come to terms with its loss. Although Jeff tactlessly encourages his friends to move on as quickly as possible, Britta offers her services as a grief counselor to the rest of the study group. But when they discover that their biology class has been cancelled because of the explosion & that they will have to make up the credits by enrolling in summer school, even Jeff breaks down & cries. Meanwhile, Chang lobbies for more power as Greendale’s head of security, but Dean Pelton balks at his request to use pepper spray & enact martial law. ...

Two months after being expelled from Greendale for inciting a riot, the study group gathers for a potluck dinner. When Abed arrives in the custody of a police officer after having been arrested for trespassing on the Greendale campus, his friends are shocked. Since the dean says he won’t press charges if Abed sees a psychiatrist to deal with his Greendale obsession, the rest of the group agrees to support him by accompanying him to the appointment with Dr. Heidi. & though they try to convince the doctor that Abed isn’t crazy, they are forced to admit that his already odd behavior has become increasingly troubling since they were expelled. ...

Several months after his father Cornelius’ death, Pierce receives a letter instructing him to bring seven of his closest friends to a mysterious room in Hawthorne Labs. Only able to round up the six other members of the study group, Pierce tells them he thinks he is finally going to receive his inheritance. Once they arrive, Cornelius’ longtime assistant Gilbert explains that Pierce & his friends must play a video game called “ Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne.” As the study group figures out the rules of the politically incorrect game, Cornelius’ all-powerful avatar reveals that the first player to reach the throne inside Castle Hawkthorne will inherit his fortune. ...

Sneaking onto Greendale’s campus in search of proof that Chang has kidnapped Dean Pelton & replaced him with an imposter, the study group discovers that Greendale has become Chang’s personal fiefdom. Realizing that they need inside information, Troy turns to a repairman from the Air Conditioning Repair School named Murray for help. Although Murray reveals that Dean Pelton is being held in the basement of the cafeteria, he says that the AC Repair School will only help free him if Troy agrees to leave the study group & enroll in its program. So in order to protect Troy, his friends prepare to stage an elaborate heist to rescue Dean Pelton on their own. ...

While Jeff frantically studies for the summer school biology final, Dean Pelton announces that he has chosen Shirley’s Sandwiches to take Subway’s place in the Greendale cafeteria. But when Pierce & Shirley can’t decide which of them should be the business’s official owner, Jeff reluctantly agrees to represent Shirley as the case goes to “ Greendale Court.” Meanwhile, Abed is so worried that he might go crazy now that he has lost Troy to the Air Conditioning Repair School that he agrees to let Britta be his therapist. But just before Britta arrives for their first appointment, he allows the more confident Evil Abed to take over his personality. ...

As Chang settles in to his new home – Greendale’s utility closet – & hopes to be promoted to “security guard detective, ” the study group prepares to make terrariums in Professor Kane’s biology class. But when Kane assigns each of them a random lab partner for the semester, they beg to be allowed to pair up with each other instead. Even though Kane grants their request, Pierce finds himself the odd man out in the group of seven & must work with classmate Todd. Meanwhile, Chang finds himself drawn into a noir-style mystery of his own making. ...

Now that they are roommates, Troy & Abed decide to throw a housewarming party at their new apartment. While Shirley arrives early to bake for the occasion, Pierce tries to hide his disappointment that Troy has moved out of his mansion to live with Abed.
