The inspiration for this piece is taken from the walled Victorian Kitchen Garden found at Lissadell House, County Sligo, Irel&.
Looking over Drumcliff bay, Lissadell lies on the south shore of the Magherow peninsula taking its name from the Irish placename, Lios an Doill Uí Dálaigh. The large Neo-classical Greek style house with Victorian walled garden boasts its own micro climate making it suitable to grow a variety of fruit, vegetables & herbs. Built in the 1830’s, the house & gardens are open in the summer months to visitors.
This new oval shaped basket is woven in the shape of a platter of colourful salad vegetables. Scattered around the edge are peapods, cabbages, corn, asparagus & cherry tomatoes. Hidden throughout are ladybirds, a butterfly & a bumble bee.
