Product Description

Face to Face was a landmark BBC Television series broadcast between 1959-1962, in which John Freeman, former politician & former editor of The New Statesman, asked straight forward & often searching questions to intellectually heavyweight personalities of the day. To mark the 50th Anniversary of this groundbreaking series, all 35 episodes are released on DVD for the first time from 17th August. The popular & at times controversial series pioneered a new style of interviewing. Presented by John Freeman, the camera angles were distinctive, with Freeman out of shot so only his questions could be heard. His guests were filmed in tight close-ups under stark lighting condition, almost as if under interrogation. The insightful & often probing style of the show made it stand out from anything at the time, & since. The calibre of guests was outstanding from the likes of Dr Martin Luther King to Adam Faith. King Hussein of Jordan also made an appearance, Carl Jung the esteemed psycho analyst was interviewed, as was writer Evelyn Waugh plus great actors like Albert Finney & Tony Hancock & a host of others.
