Contemporary artist Chris Bourke produces beautiful prints from h&-made Linocuts. Using clean lines & a predominantly monochrome palette, Bourke archives a certain naive charm, built around stripped back simplicity. His prints are inspired by tattoo art & religious iconography, a pairing that works to exceptional success, centring around graphic patterns, typography & illustrative imagery, to create miniature tableaus & iconic motifs. ‘ You & Me’ depicts two, red love-hearts, each adorned with a banner reading ‘ You’ & ‘ Me’, respectively. A black arrow shoots through both, while an explosion fires in the background, drawn in thick, inky, zig-zag lines. It’s tattoo art for the page: bold, graphic & laced with religious symbolism for a striking piece of contemporary print-work.
