Mixed media/collage (Mixed media & acrylic paint on paper on canvas. (frameweb.com): Dario Moschetta says his practice results in the creation of “mixed media” works. Yet his technique is more complex than what “mixed media” might imply. Using a detailed photographic base printed on paper, he proceeds to dissolve the printed pigment by applying vinyl glue directly on the surface. He then tears away the first layer of paper to leave behind a spectre of an image, thereafter spraying the painting with water & scratching the surface with sandpaper & chisels to expose the pulp below. This process is repeated until he is satisfied with the result, & goes on to add colour to his work. Moschetta is inspired by film posters & cinematic icons. While he is known mainly for his cityscapes, he has also done an outstanding series of portraits that resembles old, worn posters that have faded over time. Interested in the effect of time over both physical & mental images, Moschetta’s work is charmingly, masterfully uneven & nostalgic.
