After experiencing the loss of his wife, Taiwan director Tom Lin ( Starry Starry Night) confronted his grief through filmmaking & the result is Zinnia Flower. Subtle, solemn & emotionally piercing, the melancholic drama explores the pain of loss, the rituals of mourning & the stages of grief in honest, soul-searching manner. Maydays Stone ( Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?) & Karena Lam, in a luminous performance that won her Best Actress at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards, take audiences through the difficult journey of grieving & healing as two people connected by the loss of their loved ones.
One car accident claims the lives of Weis (Stone) wife & Mings (Karena Lam) fiance. Each deals with the shock & grief in their own way. Angry & desolate, Wei shuts himself in at home & lashes out at those around him. Ming calmly goes about her business, reassuring those who worry about her & silently accepting the harsh words of her would-be in-laws. Both happen to participate in 100-day mourning rituals at the same Buddhist temple where they recite prayers for the recently departed. Over the 100-day mourning period, they cry, hurt, vent, reminisce & take small gradual steps towards bidding farewell to their beloved partners.
