Prepare for all-out gang war, Joseon-style, in the period action comedy The Accidental Gangster & the Mistaken Courtesan (a.k.a. Riot in a Gibang in 1724). Set in 1724 Korea, this fusion fighter from writer-director Yeo Gyoon-dong ( Silk Shoes) packs in sprawling action & raucous humor amid beautiful costumes & elaborate sets. Appearing in his first film since 2005s Typhoon, Lee Jung Jae stars as the loud, accidental gangster opposite Kim Suk Hoon ( Tube) as his comically villainous nemesis & Kim Ok Bin ( Dasepo Naughty Girls) as the gisaeng (female entertainer) whose beauty launched a thousand brawls.
Ace fighter & trouble magnet Chun Doong (Lee Jung Jae) falls in love at first sight with enchanting gisaeng Seol Ji (Kim Ok Bin) but alas, their rendezvous is too brief as her underworld-connected boss Man Deuk (Kim Suk Hoon) warns him off & whisks her away. Still pining after Seol Ji, Chun Doong unexpectedly becomes the new boss of the Jakgwi gang when he accidentally kills the gangs head. As luck would have it, all the big bosses of the region are soon called together for a pow wow at Man Deuks bar. Chun Doong uses the opportunity to rescue Seol Ji from Man Deuks grasp, setting off a huge riot & gang war in the process.
