Everybody was delighted
...From the wildly imaginative mind of Miyazaki Hayao & Studio Ghibli, Princess Mononoke is a grand fantasy epic about the eternal war between human & nature. Miyazaki began drawing conceptual sketches for the film as early as the late 1970s, creating a complex & visually breathtaking world in which human & various creatures living in nature co-exist in a precarious balance that can tip over at any moment. Set around 15th century Japan, Mononoke follows a young man who sets out to cure a curse put on his arm after defeating a scorned boar god-turned-demon & a girl who was raised in the wild by wolves known as Princess Mononoke. Hugely popular at the time of its release, Princess Mononoke was the first animated film to win Best Picture at the Japan Academy Prize & remains one of the highest grossing Japanese films of all time. It is also considered one of the greatest films made by Japans premier animation studio.
Set during the Muromachi Period (1333-1568) of Japan, Princess Mononoke is a story about a mystic fight between the Animal Gods of the forest & humans. On the side of the Animal Gods is San (Mononoke Hime), a human girl raised by the wolf god Moro. On the side of the humans is Lady Eboshi, building a kingdom for oppressed people by cutting down the forest for her iron-making operation. In the middle of this fierce fighting for survival, Ashitaka, an Emishi boy, struggles to find a way for both sides to co-exist. But the fighting just becomes more & more bloody & all hope seems to be lost...
