Indeed, The Last Night of Madam China director Bai Jing Ruis Far Away From Home was readily embraced by its audience, & the movie won Chin his second Golden Horse Best Actor Award, & Hu Best Supporting Actress. It was not only the most decorated of all Qiong Yao movies, but also the first Taiwan film ever to be shot on location in Europe.
Qiong Yao reportedly wrote the original story based on Bais experience studying in Italy. The 1977 romantic drama adaptation tells the story of Zhi Yuan (Charles Chin), who works hard in Rome to support his younger brother Zhi Xiang (Ma Yung Lin) to study fine arts there. He even tries to play matchmaker for Zhi Xiang & his friend Yi Hua (Terry Hu). However, Zhi Xiang falls for wealthy girl Dan Li (Hsia Ling Ling) instead, much to the anger of Zhi Yuan. Yi Hua cries. Little does Zhi Yuan know, Yi Huas tears arent shed for his brother...
