Based on the true story of the E-Land Mart strike, Cart follows a group of female contract workers who band together to fight for their rights when they get unfairly laid off from their jobs. Female director Boo Ji Young ( Sisters on the Road) brings together an award-winning lineup of actresses Yeom Jung Ah (A Tale of Two Sisters), Moon Jung Hee ( Hide & Seek), Kim Young Ae ( The Attorney) & Chun Woo Hee ( Han Gong Ju) for this empathetic drama about labor activism & its effects on the womens lives & families. Cart also co-stars Kim Kang Woo ( Tabloid Truth) as a mart supervisor who supports the womens cause & EXOs D.O ( Its Okay, Thats Love) as Yeom Jung Ahs teenage son.
Working mother of two Sun Hee (Yeom Jung Ah) is a model employee at the large discount mart she works for, & has been promised promotion to full-time status. Before the promotion comes through, however, she & the other female contract workers, many of whom depend on the job for livelihood, are suddenly informed that their contracts have been terminated early. They form a union & attempt to negotiate, but management refuses to even acknowledge them. To make their voices heard, the women stage a sitdown strike & take over the mart in what will be the beginning of a long & grueling fight with the company.
