Twelve years after The Gift to the Japanese Emperor, director Im Sun returns to the "e;comfort women"e; issue with The Last Comfort Women to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Koreas National Liberation Day. After ten years of production, Im brings to screen the painful true story of a Chinese sex slavery victim during World War II. Starring Moon Shi Ho ( Outsider), Kim Mi Young & rookie Chinese-Japanese actress Ley, The Last Comfort Women was selected for the 2015 Gwangju International Film Festival.
In late 1943 when Korea is under Japanese rule, numerous young women are forced to become sex slaves. Believing that she can study music in Tokyo after finishing volunteer work for the war, the innocent Yeon Hee (Moon Shi Ho) boards a ship heading to the battlefield. After a humiliating physical examination, she is raped & her violin is destroyed by the Japanese soldiers. More victims are brought to the military site including retired Japanese geisha Miyako (Kim Mi Young) & tough Chinese woman Dandan (Ley). No one knows when they can be freed from their hellish lives.
