After seeing the picture Burning Virgins drawn by Kang Il Chul, a survivor of sexual slavery during World War II, director Jo Jung Rae ( Duresori: The Voice of East) decided to tell the world this dark episode in Korean history & console the spirits of the victims through Spirits Homecoming. Starring rookie actresses Kang Ha Na & Seo Mi Ji & veteran stage actress Sun Sook, the period drama reveals the traumatic experiences of two teenage girls who are forced to be comfort women in 1943 during World War II. Because of war, Jung Mins (Kang Ha Na) became poor & Young Hee (Seo Mi Ji) lost her parents. One day, the two girls are kidnapped by Japanese soldiers & taken to the comfort station where women are forced into sexual slavery. Constantly beaten & sexually assaulted, the two plan to escape. However, only Young Hee succeeds while Jung Min is killed. Many years after the war, Young Hee (Son Sook) brings back the souls of the poor comfort women with the help of a shaman & finally meets her best friend Jung Min.
