When the city goes to sleep, he goes to work in the kitchen. Does he have any customers? More than you think...
Based on Abe Yaros manga Shinya Shokudo, the acclaimed slice-of-life series Midnight Diner revolves around a late-night Shinjuku alleyway restaurant run by the wise & enigmatic owner/chef Master (Kobayashi Kaoru) & the stories of his customers. Every day from midnight to 7 a.m., this unusual Midnight Diner becomes the watering hole for regulars of all walks, from stoic gangsters to chatty office ladies. Theres only one item on the menu, but as long as he can, Master will make anything asked & provide a sympathetic ear & sage advice to all the night owls who come through his door in search of food & conversation. Aired around midnight on TBS, Midnight Diner turned into a critical hit with its warm fusion of human drama & foodie drama. The first season aired in 2009 was followed by additional seasons & feature films, all sticking to the same heartwarming recipe.
