Japanese marathoner Tatsuo (Odagiri Joe) & Korean marathoner Jun Sik (Jang Dong Gun) have known each other since childhood, but their rivalry goes beyond running in a Korea subjugated by Japanese rule. When Jun Sik edges out Tatsuo in an Olympic qualifying race but Tatsuo is declared the winner, riots break out & Jun Sik gets arrested.
