Product Description

In 1985, Miyazaki Hayao was fresh off the success of Nausicaa: The Valley of the Wind & decided to start his own animation studio with Takahata Isao. Studio Ghibli was officially established with Laputa: The Castle in the Sky as its first film, & the rest is history. The mythic adventure is not only one of the most important films in Studio Ghiblis history; its also one of its best. Taking place in a fantastical world with flying pirates, glowing crystals, & floating cities, Laputa is an exciting adventure with iconic images & a timeless message about peace. Still voted by Japanese audiences as one of the best animated films of all time, Laputa: Castle in the Sky comes to Blu-ray for the first time with both the Japan & American versions of the film. Featuring slightly different scores & other minor adjustments, both versions were approved by Miyazaki himself.

Pazus lifelong dream is to find the legendary Laputa ("e; City in the Sky"e;), which his father saw before he passed away. One day, he rescues Sheeta after she descends from the sky, & he finds out that she is the keeper of Laputas secret, hidden in the mysterious flying stone she carries. Soon, they are pursued by ruthless members of the government & a band of pirates, who are all after the secret for their own purposes. The chase takes Pazu & Sheeta on a perilous adventure that brings them closer & closer to unlocking the secret of Laputa.

In addition to the alternate American version of the film (in English with Japanese Subtitles), this Blu-ray edition comes with storyboards, dubbing script, the credit-less versions of the opening & ending, & various promotional materials. The Japan version also comes with the French, German, Korean, Cantonese, & Mandarin dubs of the film, as well as its original Japanese soundtrack.
