The five members of Arashi appear together on the big screen again in the highly anticipated Kiiroi Namida, a.k.a. Yellow Tears. Based on the classic manga by Nagashima Shinji, this nostalgic film takes the audience back to the 1960s with a moving story about youth, friendship, & the pursuit of dreams. Director Inudo Isshin, whose previous works include Touch, Maison de Himiko, & Across a Gold Prairie, strikes the right balance of compelling drama & coming-of-age tropes in following the hopes & trials of five young men in post-war Japan. With all the members of Arashi in a film together for the first time since Pikanchi, Kiiroi Namida inevitably bears the label of an idol movie, but it is much more than that. Matsumoto Jun ( Hana Yori Dango), Sakurai Sho ( Honey & Clover), Ninomiya Kazunari ( Letters from Iwo Jima), Aiba Masaki ( Triple Kitchen), & Ohno Satoshi have all developed respectable acting careers in their own rights, & the film truly showcases them as individual actors, while building on the chemistry they have as a group.
In the bustle of 1960s Tokyo, five young men cross paths & develop a strong friendship. Aspiring novelist Ryuzo (Sakurai Sho), ambitious manga artist Eisuke (Ninomiya Kazunari), painter Kei (Ohno Satoshi), & aspiring singer Shoichi (Masaki Aiba) end up living together one memorable summer. Along with delivery boy Yuji (Matsumoto Jun), each works hard to realize his dream, but the journey of youth is never straightforward.
