In 2010, producer Checkley Sin & director Herman Yau explored Ip Man the righteous, patriotic Wing Chun grandmaster in The Legend is Born Ip Man. Three years later, the team shows us a more human side of Master Ip with Ip Man: The Final Fight. People know Ip Man as the Wing Chun grandmaster that defeated Japanese soldiers, racist boxers & Zhang Ziyi on the big screen. However, The Final Fight depicts a later stage of Master Ips life as a humble Wing Chun teacher in 1950s & 1960s Hong Kong. Based on anecdotes about Master Ips life directly from his son Ip Chun, the action drama shows the master as a normal man who simply wanted to pass on the art of Wing Chun to his students, even as labor unrest, corruption & crime swept the rapidly developing city. In 1949, 56-year-old Ip Man (Anthony Wong) leaves Foshan in search of a new life in Hong Kong. After an impromptu sparring match, Ip takes up his first disciple, Leung Seung (Timmy Hung). With Seungs help, Ip establishes a makeshift Wing Chun school on an apartment buildings rooftop. Eventually, Ip attracts a group of loyal students from all walks of life, including a policeman, a factory laborer, a tram driver & others. As his students face troubles inside & outside of the school over the years, Master Ip remains a strong, unwavering moral figure in their lives.
