Based on the same Shiro Masamune manga that inspired Oshii Mamorus Ghost in the Shell, the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series is set in a complex cyber-infused world of the future. Following a storyline more closely adapted from the original manga, the series revolves around the members of Section 9, an elite crime-fighting unit specializing in technology-related crimes ranging from terrorism to cyber crimes to political conspiracies. The 26-episode series was aired in 2003, followed by a 26-episode second season, Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig, in 2006.
Released in 2006 after the second seasons conclusion, the film Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society, helmed by the anime series director Kamiyama Kenji, picks up the story two years after the events in the 2nd Gig. Revolving around the pursuit of a dangerous terrorist called the Puppeteer, the film marks the Section 9 return of Major Kusanagi Motoko.
This edition comes with an eight-page booklet.
