A blood pledge of friendship between gangsters, an international counterfeiting ring, double-crossings, & two-guns-blazing revenge
- Fury (1988) has all the elements of classic Hong Kong action cinema. It also sports some very familiar faces for gun-fu fans; Furys three lead actors would all go on to star in some of the modern masterpieces of the genre. Waise Lee is perhaps best known as the unscrupulous Paul in John Woos Bullet in the Head, while Philip Chan played Chow Yun Fats boss in Woos Hard Boiled, & Michael Wong starred opposite Anthony Wong in Beast Cops.
In Fury, Lee, Chan, & Wong play three fast friends in the Hong Kong underworld overseeing the transfer of counterfeit US dollars to their associates in the Taiwanese mob. Lees cousin is in charge of arranging the handoff, but hes also a police snitch. The botched operation ends in Wongs arrest & a narrow escape for Lee & Chan. The double-crossing cousin doesnt want any loose ends left alive, however, & goes after Chan & even Wongs wife. Upon his release from prison, Wong reunites with Lee to get some triad-style revenge on the man who set them up.
