Making a splash at the Cannes & Belgium film festivals, Eureka is one of the best films of 2001. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aoyama Shinji ( Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachthani), Eureka won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. The film stars popular actor Yakusho Koji ( Shall We Dance), NANA starlet Miyazaki Aoi, & her brother Miyazaki Masaru ( Hatsukoi) in his film debut.
Sawai (Yakusho Koji) is a driver who survives a cold-blooded busjack along with a young man, Naoki (Miyazaki Masaru), & his sister (Miyazaki Aoi). After the incident, the three are constantly bothered by the media, & Sawai decides to leave town. Two years later Sawai decides to return to Kyushu. There is a serial killer on the loose & Sawai is again put in the spotlight, but this time as a suspect! In order to get away from the police & the public eye, Naoki & his sister also decide to leave, jumping onto a bus to escape the dreaded city they call home.
