Winner of the Audience Award at the 2016 Taipei Film Festival, Wawa no Cidal (a.k.a. Panay) shines a light on the struggles of Taiwans marginalized aboriginal communities. Directed by Cheng Yu Chieh ( Yang Yang) & Lekal Sumi ( Wish of the Ocean Rice), the moving human drama is set in a coastal Amis village in eastern Taiwan. Like many others from the village, journalist Panay (singer & TV host Ado Kaliting Pacidal) lives & works in the city while leaving her two children back home in the care of her elderly father. When her father is diagnosed with cancer, Panay decides to move back to the village, only to find that many things have changed for the worse in her hometown. Tourism & development have greatly affected the environment & the villagers traditional way of life.
