Hong Kong entertainment industry vet Lee Po Cheung ( Single Blog) offers up a charming crime/romantic comedy in Gangster Pay Day. Starring Anthony Wong ( The Four III), Charlene Choi ( The Midas Touch), Wong Yau Nam ( The Midnight After) & Carrie Ng ( Hungry Ghost Ritual), the well-received 19th Busan Film Festival closing film is reminiscent of much loved 80s & 90s Hong Kong crime movies.
Life isnt easy for an old-school triad boss like Ghost (Anthony Wong). His karaoke bars & spas are going under, & hes just unwittingly made an enemy of fellow mob boss Bill (Keung Hiu Man, Z Storm) by refusing to sell his drugs. So Ghost, along with faithful followers Leung (Wong Yau Nam), Brother 2 (Chan Wai Man, Gallants) & Uncle B (Ng Chi Hung, Black Ransom), packs up shop & opens a legitimate business instead a cha chaan teng. Its through this new venture that Ghost meets bubbly cha chaan teng owner Mei (Charlene Choi). Despite their age difference, Ghost finds himself falling for Mei, but it turns out that Mei has her heart set on Leung. While Ghosts wise & worldly ex-wife Pui (Carrie Ng), who maintains a good relationship with her ex-husb&, seeks to help everyone involved & sort out the various romantic entanglements, a sinister property developer backed by Bill makes his move against Ghost & Meis cha chaan teng.
