Written by Raymond Wong & directed by Wu Ma, Beware of Pickpockets (1981) is notably the second production from 80s Hong Kong movie powerhouse Cinema City. Dean Shek & Karl Maka (also the producer of the film), the comic duo of the fledging companys inaugural release Laughing Times, star in this hilarious & heartwarming period comedy filled with musical & kung fu elements. The films musical sequences are notably the works of famous composer Joseph Koo & dance choreographer Lau Siu Ming.
Upright policeman Bau (Karl Maka) is ordered by his superior (Wu Ma) to catch the crafty thief Dor (Dean Shek), who always manages to go one step ahead of them, a fact that deeply irritates Bau. Dor actually only steals from the heartless rich people to help the poor, & being an orphan himself, he has taken in seven homeless street kids to live with him in a rundown church.
