Woolworths are one of the oldest high street brands in the UK, starting out in 1909 selling children's clothes, stationery and toys. Their popularity began to grow in the 1920's when they grew at an incredible pace, sometimes opening 2-3 new stores every week. At their height the brand had 807 stores on high streets throughout the UK. However, in 2009 Woolworths went into administration and had closed the majority of its stores by January 2009. Their saviour came in the form of the Shop Direct Group, an online retailer who purchased the brand and relaunched Wooolworth's as an online store. Today the thriving website sells toys, children's clothes, furniture, electricals, entertainment, gifts, home wares and sports and leisure equipment.
