It is produced by a cooperative of around 800 members on smallholdings in the Thika district of Central Province near Gatundu town. The bushes grow in the shade of macadamia & eucalyptus trees in fertile volcanic loam soil in the foothills of Mount Kenya & the Aberdare Mountains in perfect conditions. Once ripe, the beans are picked by hand & dried on tables in the Kenyan sun to bring out their exceptionally complex taste.
