This outstanding hardy shrub produces the most exhilarating coloured blooms imaginable. From summer to early autumn Hydrangea macrophylla 'Glam Rock' will burst into a psychedelic frenzy of multicoloured flower heads, that will create a real 'wow factor' in your garden.

As with many varieties, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Glam Rock' produces widely different colour tones depending on the soil pH. If the soil is neutral to alkaline (a pH of 7 to 14) then flowers will be more pink-red. In acid soils (pH less than 7) the flowers will tend to be more purple-blue in their colouration, with blooms being bluer, the lower the pH gets. In addition to this, Hydrangeas are well known for their flowers changing colour as the season progresses. These colour changes can be quite dramatic from bud break to mature bloom. This robust, hardy shrub makes a superb addition to borders or large patio containers. Height and spread: 120cm (48").

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. When growing hydrangeas, choose a sunny or semi shaded spot that is sheltered from cold winter winds. Plant in borders in rich moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils. Alternatively plant hydrangea in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Feed and water container grown plants regularly. As plants increase in size they will require repotting into increasingly larger pots. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of border grown plants. Leave faded hydrangea flower heads in place until new buds swell the following spring. These will help protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune stems in spring, removing any rubbing, damaged or diseased stems and reducing stems to maintain a permanent woody framework.
