Based on Michael Morgurgo’s 1982 children’s novel, War Horse is the story of Joey, a horse belonging to a young boy called Albert, who is sold to the cavalry during the first World War. His adventure sees him fight on both sides before he eventually finds himself alone in no man’s l&. Albert, unable & unwilling to forget his beloved horse & too young to join up, sets out on a dangerous mission to find Joey & bring him home.

Adapted by Nick Stafford, War Horse premiered at the National Theatre in October 2007. A sell-out success bolstered by rapturous reviews, every aspect of the production was critically lauded, most notably the unique use of life size puppets created & operated by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company. War Horse returned to the National by popular demand & repeated its triumph in September 2008. Its West End transfer signals the beginning of what will hopefully be a deservedly long run for War Horse, one of the greatest National successes of the 21st century so far.
