How Gaviscon Advance Chewable Tablets Work Gaviscon Advance Chewable tablets work quickly to provide instant relief from the unpleasant burning sensation & pain of heartburn & acid indigestion. It works by helping to relieve the irritation in the oesophagus (food pipe) on its way down to the stomach by forming a thick, protective layer on top of the stomach contents soon after it makes contact with the stomach acid. This layer helps prevent the contents of the stomach from seeping back up into the oesophagus which causes the pain. Gaviscon Advance contains double the amount of sodium alginate compared with Gaviscon Original. How To Take Gaviscon Advance Chewable Adults & children 12 years & over: 2 to 4 tablets to be taken after meals & before bedtime. Gaviscon should not be given to children under 12 except on a doctor's advice.
