Pierre-Jean Villa is a well-known negociant in the northern Rhone region, where he was part of the team behind the successful Vins de Vienne project, which he was involved with from 2003â2009. When he left, he decided to embark on two ventures. The first was to create his own domaine in the nothern Rhone, to make Syrah. The second was to partner with Olivier Decelle, owner of Mas Amiel in Maury & Chateau Jean Faure in Saint-Emilion, to create a new domain in Nuits-Saint Georges, Burgundy, to work with Chardonnay & Pinot Noir. As with all Decelle's ventures, soil health is key, & the 3 hectares of Decelle-Villa vineyard holdings are all managed with organics or biodynamics. Lovely delicate nose of citrus, white peach, & a hint of toast. Generous palate with nice toastiness & some mineral notes. Stylish with peach & citrus characters, offering real refinement, good weight & an appealing texture in the mouth. A fresh, richly flavoured white Burgundy like this is an ideal match for roast chicken or turkey, but it would also go well with richer-flavoured seafood such as scallops or monkfish.
