This course has many applications: A parent who simply wants to gain a more detailed understanding of their child's psychological developmental needs&44; a social worker&44; seeking specific counselling training to increase their expertise in coping with family situations involving children&44; or a experienced educator needing to widen their knowledge of their charges' psychology. Your study starts with a comprehensive investigation of the periods of growth & development&44; & the factors affecting them&44; both positive & negative. Childhood is all about growth&44; & there are key makeshift stages&44; some of which are set off by events such as starting education&44; beginning to forge relationships outside the family&44; moving to a new school & passing through puberty. All of these&44; & many more are examined in great detail. Unfortunately&44; the occurrence of family problems&44; from "routine" domestic matters such as the breakdown of parents' marriage&44; to the convolutions of various forms of abuse&44; is an ever-present & rising issue in society. These subjects are also considered in some detail on the course. Behavioral problems&44; child protection (including bullying)&44; & the subject of mental health&44; are given substantial emphasis&44; & the course helps to explain the role & function of therapeutic services & intervention. During the whole course the skills needed by counsellors & other professionals are studied & fully explained to give you the knowledge & confidence to begin a career in this profession On completion of this course students will have developed an in-depth understanding of the essential skills & tools needed to work with clients&44; & the importance of values & ethics. Furthermore&44; & this is UNIQUE&44; students of this course will be awarded 20 points towards accreditation with the National Counselling Society. This is a really "big deal" for anyone committed to a career within the profession. Membership of NCS requires 75 points&44; so this course fulfils almost half of that requirement. Full accreditation requires a 150 points&44; so completion of the course gets you well on the way&44; & is a real stepping stone on your career path.
