On April 14th 1912 the passenger liner Titanic was speeding towards New York on her maiden transatlantic voyage when she struck an iceberg off the Grand Banks of Newfoundl&, Canada, & sank with the loss of 1, 513 lives. The whole of England was plunged into mourning & Steiff responded by producing black mohair bears to mourn the disaster too. Within weeks they were displayed in shop windows throughout London & sold out very quickly. Only 494 of this prized bear were made & here Steiff have made a replica of this very famous bear to commemorate the centenary & called him Othello. This is a LARGE handsome bear of 50cm & is made from the finest black mohair. Fully jointed with head & limbs which are loosely atttached to the body making it easy to sit him in different positiions. He is stuffed with wood shavings just like the original bear was & he has sparkling glass eyes & when tipped you can hear him growl. Finally he has beige felt paw pads which contrast against the black so well & hand embroidered mouth & nose. PLEASE NOTE THIS BEAR WILL BE WITH US SPRING THIS YEAR & IS NOW AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER.
