Japanese holly is a very popular plant! Very much resembles & can be used exactly like boxwood (Buxus sempervirens). A strong & easily grown ornamental shrub which makes great hedging but will also look attractive as a stand alone plant in the border or in a large planter. Especially handy right now as this variety is not at all troubled by the mildew affecting many box plants in North Western Europe. The leaves of the Japanese holly are small & pretty like boxwood. The flowers are inconspicuous but they produce tasty berries for garden birds. Easily pruned & faster growing than box. Can also grow to a much taller height. As it prunes so well, you can decide whether to keep you hedge low or have it grow up to 4 metres tall. It’s also great for use in topiary, either in the hedge or as a solitary item. In short this sturdy shrub is great in any garden.
