Product Description

Another design from the archive of Liberty of London, which I am always so overjoyed to explore. Called Fête this tableau presents various characters, drawn with an elegant, sweeping h&, exquisitely inked & tinted. A maypole dance is in progress attended by a Scotsman in Highland dress, a sailor, a "dandy" & a bulldog for good measure. Also shown are a couple of policemen, bearskin hatted army drummers, a Chelsea pensioner, a scholar or student & a Welsh woman in national dress with characteristic conical hat. A quintessentially British Victorian or Edwardian gathering. A bright, detailed, colourful print with oodles of charm.
